In the heart of Evansville, Indiana, a young life was abruptly cut short on August 4, 2024. Kevion KeChay Mann, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot in the 300 block of Southeast Martin Luther King Boulevard. The incident, which unfolded on a Sunday afternoon, left the community searching for answers. An autopsy later confirmed that Mann died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation into Mann's death quickly led to the identification of suspects.
Authorities arrested 22-year-old Keymontai K. Madison and charged him with murder. Another man, 25-year-old Mark A. Dow III, was also taken into custody and charged with assisting a criminal. Surveillance footage from the area reportedly captured a confrontation between a man and Madison just moments before the fatal shot was fired. According to reports, the video showed the two squaring up for a fight before Madison allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Mann as he tried to run away. Following the incident, Madison turned himself in to the Evansville Police Department.
Kevion, known to his loved ones as 'Kevi,' 'Kevo,' or '1K,' was born on June 12, 2001. He was a graduate of Bosse High School and was employed at the Shoe Carnival warehouse. His obituary paints a picture of a young man who enjoyed basketball, track, and had recently taken up fishing. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, playing video games, and going to the gun range. He is remembered by his grandmother, siblings, a stepson, and a godson, among other family members and friends.
