In the early hours of an August morning, the life of 19-year-old JaLeal Daeshawn Hurt was tragically cut short on the near northwest side of Indianapolis. On August 20, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call of a person shot in the 600 block of Udell Street, an area just a few blocks south of the historic Crown Hill Cemetery.
Upon their arrival, police discovered a grim scene.
JaLeal Daeshawn Hurt, a young male, was found with at least one gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the location, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner's Office later officially identified the victim, confirming his identity and age to the public.
