In the midst of his duties as a bail bondsman, Byron L. Frierson Sr., a 55-year-old male, was fatally shot on March 16, 2018, in Indianapolis. For two decades, Frierson was the founder and operator of Byron's No Limit Bail Bonds, where he was known for his dedication to his community. On that Friday afternoon, he was attempting to take a man into custody outside a funeral home on the city's north side when the fatal encounter occurred.
The incident unfolded on the sidewalk of the Stuart
Mortuary, where Frierson was reportedly trying to apprehend Robert S. Dew. During the attempt to take him into custody, Dew allegedly shot Frierson, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The tragic event happened while a funeral service was taking place inside the mortuary, and witnesses to the shooting were present.
Thanks to the cooperation of those witnesses, police were able to quickly identify and apprehend the suspect. Robert S. Dew, who was 19 years old at the time, was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was subsequently and formally charged with the murder of Byron Frierson Sr. Authorities described the shooting as an isolated incident and not a random act of violence.
