Jabril Ross, a 35-year-old resident of East St. Louis, Illinois, was fatally shot on January 7, 2023. The incident occurred inside a barbershop located in the 7400 block of State Street in East St. Louis, which is approximately three blocks away from Katie Harper Wright Elementary School.
The shooting led to an immediate investigation initiated by Illinois State Police troopers from the ISP's Zone 6 Public Safety Enforcement Group, with assistance from the East St.
Louis Police Department. The investigation continued for over a year before any arrests were made.
On February 1, 2024, Brandon Lee, a 33-year-old man from Belleville, turned himself in to the East St. Louis Police Department. He was subsequently arrested and charged by the St. Clair County State's Attorney with first-degree murder in connection with Jabril Ross's death.
