Mary Lou Lahman, aged 83, passed away on February 11, 2023, in Crossville, Illinois. Her death was a result of gun violence.
Mary Lou was born on December 18, 1939, to J. Norbert and Dorothy P. (Nibling) Matz. She had a rich and fulfilling life, marked by her devotion to her family and community. She was married twice; first to Donnie Williams on May 16, 1959, who preceded her in death in August 1989, and then to Lewis Michael Lahman on February 14, 2003.
Tragically, Michael Lahman also passed away on the same day as Mary Lou, February 11, 2023.
Mary Lou was a dedicated and caring individual who worked for many years as a cook, server, and lunch lady at Mount Gilead schools. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and strong will. She loved to travel, dance, and was particularly fond of cooking, baking, and canning in her earlier years. Mary Lou was also a devout Catholic and an active member of the Mount Gilead VFW and St. Polycarp Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie D. Williams, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and a daughter-in-law. Mary Lou's legacy includes her vibrant personality and the countless lives she touched through her kindness and generosity.
A graveside memorial service for both Mary Lou and Michael Lahman was held on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at White County Memorial Garden in Carmi, Illinois, with military rites provided by the Carmi VFW, American Legion, and Masonic rites.
