Aaronayjah Medley, a 17-year-old girl, died on July 9, 2024, due to injuries sustained from a shooting that occurred early in the morning of July 5, 2024, in the North Lawndale area of Chicago, Illinois. The incident took place inside an apartment in the 1200 block of South Central Park Avenue around 1:40 a.m. Aaronayjah was struck in the head by gunfire and was subsequently taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment.
Aaronayjah lived in the vicinity of the shooting, residing just around the corner from where the incident occurred. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday afternoon, July 9, 2024.
The shooting that resulted in Aaronayjah's death was part of a particularly violent Fourth of July weekend in Chicago, which saw at least 21 homicides and numerous other injuries from various shootings. This period is historically one of the most violent times of the summer in the city.
