On April 22, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in the Calumet Heights neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, resulting in the death of 3-year-old Laroyce Bolden. The shooting took place inside a home located in the 8800 block of South Euclid Avenue at approximately 3:40 p.m..
Laroyce was initially reported in serious condition after being shot in the face. He was transported to Jackson Park Hospital and later transferred to Comer Children's Hospital for further treatment.
Despite undergoing surgery, Laroyce succumbed to his injuries one week later, on April 29, 2023, as confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The incident has left the community in shock and concern, particularly given the neighborhood's changing dynamics. Neighbors noted that while the area is predominantly residential with many seniors, it has been experiencing an increase in violence. Residents expressed frustration and fear, especially for the safety of young children in the area.
As of the current date, no one is in custody related to the shooting. The Chicago police are still investigating the incident, and detectives are seeking information from the public to help identify the perpetrators. Community activist Andrew Holmes emphasized the need for community cooperation in providing information to help combat gun violence and bring justice to the victims.
