On the night of June 24, 2023, gunfire on the 900 block of South Sixth Street in Belleville drew officers and paramedics to a tense scene where DeMarco A. Davis, Jr., a 22-year-old male had been shot.

He was rushed to Memorial Hospital in Belleville and pronounced dead at 10:53 p.m., his identity and age confirmed by authorities along with a note that the 22-year-old male's last known address was in East St. Louis.
