Jacob “Jake” Alan Wall, a White male, age 23, was shot inside a home on the 800 block of Tennyson in Wood River, Illinois, shortly after 4 a.m. on Monday, July 24, 2023.
First responders treated the 23-year-old at the scene before he was taken by ambulance to the Wood River Police Department, transferred to a helicopter, and airlifted to a St. Louis hospital.
He was identified by police as Jacob Wall and later died at St. Louis University Hospital.
According to his obituary, he was pronounced at 5:45 a.m. that morning.
Detectives from Wood River and Madison County began investigating immediately, interviewing people who had been at the home as guests and securing a person of interest by the following day.
Police then announced an arrest: 19-year-old Austin L. Mullins of Alton was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Jacob “Jake” Alan Wall, age 23.
Mullins' bail was set at $1,000,000, and charging documents allege he discharged a firearm causing the death of Wall on July 24, 2023.
