On July 30, 2023, a tragic shooting occurred in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, resulting in the death of 21-year-old Kanesha Gaines and injuring eight other women. The incident happened around 1 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Keeler Avenue, where a group of women were gathered for a Hawaiian-themed birthday celebration, or a luau party.
