Samantha Zapata, a 26-year-old woman, was found shot to death on the morning of August 23, 2014, inside a residence in the 8300 block of South Archer Avenue in Willow Springs, a southwest suburb of Chicago. According to the Cook County medical examiner, her death was ruled a homicide, and she was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:47 a.m. alongside a 35-year-old man, identified in news reports as her husband, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
