On October 16, 2023, Roderick Richardson, a 30-year-old man from Peoria, Illinois, was fatally shot in an incident that occurred at a residence in the 1200 block of North Ellis Street, near the intersection with Columbia Terrace on the city’s West Bluff.
The shooting took place around 5:15 a.m. during an altercation. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood reported that Richardson suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:27 a.m..
Following the incident, 18-year-old T’Nashia Wash was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. According to initial information from the scene, the shooting occurred in the context of an altercation between Wash and Richardson, who was her boyfriend. It was reported that Richardson had threatened to shoot both of them before the incident.
Wash remains in custody at the Peoria County Jail and was subsequently charged by a grand jury with a single count of first-degree murder. Her arraignment was scheduled for later that week.
Richardson's death marked the 23rd homicide in Peoria for the year 2023, a city that had recorded 24 homicides in 2022 and 34 in 2021. The case remains under investigation, with an autopsy scheduled to gather further details.
