Jonnie Angel Klein, a 31-year-old single mother, was tragically killed on Saturday, November 4, 2023, in a senseless act of violence in Worth, Illinois. The incident occurred when Klein was using the ATM at a Chase Bank located at 6838 W. 111th Street around 3 p.m. During this time, another car pulled into the drive-thru, and an attempted robbery ensued. One of the suspects got out and shot Klein in the chest.

After being shot, Klein managed to drive across 111th Street to another bank branch, where she was found gravely injured. Despite the swift response from the police, who arrived within 78 seconds of the 911 call, Klein had already succumbed to her injuries by the time officers arrived.

The suspects, identified as 22-year-old Tamara Jailynn Johnson and 23-year-old Jason Jerry Joseph Johnson, both from Harvey, Illinois, were taken into custody by the Worth police on Sunday, November 5, 2023. They have been charged with first-degree murder and are linked to several other recent armed robberies in the area and in northwest Indiana. Police also recovered multiple guns, including the one used to kill Klein.

Jonnie Angel Klein was a devoted mother to her 14-year-old son, Jeremy, and 10-year-old daughter, McKayla. She was also a loving caretaker for her mother, who has been battling cancer. Klein worked hard to provide for her family and was known for her kind, caring, and humble nature. She was a popular counter worker at a Dunkin' Donuts near 111th Street and Kedzie.

The community has come together to support Klein's family, with a GoFundMe campaign set up to cover funeral expenses, immediate necessities, and future expenses for her children. The campaign has raised over $62,000, and funeral services were held on Saturday, November 11, at Thompson-Kuenster Funeral Home in Oak Lawn.

Klein's family and community are deeply affected by her loss, describing her as the "light of our family" who always put others before herself. Her death has left a significant void, but her family finds some solace in the fact that justice has been pursued, with the suspects in custody.
