On March 30, 2017, Patrice Calvin, a 26-year-old African-American woman who was four months pregnant, was found fatally shot in the head inside her third-floor apartment in the 7500 block of South Luella Avenue in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire the previous evening but did not gain entry at that time. The following day, her brother discovered her body when he went to check on her.
