On November 25, 2023, the body of 31-year-old Jamere Donte' Bew was discovered in a ditch near U.S. 136 and 1025 East Road, a rural area between McLean and Heyworth in McLean County, Illinois. The McLean County coroner's office determined that Bew died from multiple gunshot wounds. Toxicology results are pending.
The investigation into Bew's death led to the arrest of two Bloomington men, Justin G. Kletz, 26, and Derek P. Siebring, 18.
Both were charged with multiple counts, including first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping. They are being held at the McLean County jail. In June 2024, a third individual, 23-year-old Gabrielle Stine of Bloomington, was also charged with first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in connection with Bew's death. All three defendants are awaiting trial.
Born on April 21, 1992, in Joliet, Illinois, to Elaine Donald and James E. Lee Jr., Bew began his education in New Lenox, Illinois, before moving to Richmond, Texas, where he graduated from William B. Travis High School. He furthered his education at Job Corps in Austin, Texas, earning a Business Certificate. Bew later relocated to Bloomington, Illinois, where he was employed as a Team Lead at Rivian and as a laborer at Oakley Assembly. He was baptized at Southwest Community Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
An avid football enthusiast, Bew began playing at the age of five for the Joliet Titans and continued through high school. He was a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs fan. Known for his infectious smile and joyful spirit, Bew cherished time with family and friends, especially his son, Landen. He is survived by his mother, son, stepmother, two sisters, nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
Visitation and funeral services were held on December 2, 2023, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Joliet, Illinois, followed by interment at Elmhurst Cemetery. The investigation into Bew's death remains ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact the McLean County Sheriff's Office.
