On October 6, 2019, Russell DeAngelo Jefferson, a 31-year-old African American male from Rockford, Illinois, was fatally shot during a birthday celebration at Cronie's Bar & Grill in Machesney Park. Born on October 17, 1988, to Reatha Patterson and Robert Jefferson, Russell was a father to five sons: Quinton, Royal, Ashton, Ramier, and Russell Jefferson Jr. He attended Rockford Public High Schools and was affectionately known as "Russ D" by family and friends.
