On January 31, 2024, 16-year-old Daveon Gibson, a sophomore at Senn High School in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, was fatally shot while walking home from school. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of West Thorndale Avenue, just blocks away from the school, at approximately 3:36 p.m..
