Treyvon M. Short, a 17-year-old boy, was found shot to death in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago on the night of February 29 is incorrect, as the incident actually occurred on March 1, 2024. The shooting took place around 10:20 p.m. at a residence in the 3600 block of West Franklin Boulevard.
When officers responded to a report of shots fired, they found Treyvon M. Short unresponsive. He had suffered several gunshot wounds to the chest and one to the head.
Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Treyvon M. Short. The circumstances of the shooting are currently under investigation by Area Four detectives of the Chicago Police Department. As of the latest reports, no one is in custody in connection with the shooting.
Humboldt Park, where the incident occurred, is known to be a high-crime area. In 2021, it ranked 11th out of 77 community areas in Chicago for violent crime. The Chicago Police Department has been working on various initiatives to reduce violence in such areas, including strengthening community policing and enhancing detective investigations.
