Jonalberto Guadalupe Sanchez, a 24-year-old resident of Rantoul, Illinois, was pronounced dead on April 14, 2024, at 6:21 PM at the Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Room in Urbana, Illinois. He succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest sustained in a shooting incident near the intersection of 3200 North and 1800 East in Ludlow Township, Illinois.
The incident occurred as a result of a dispute between Guadalupe Sanchez and Argenis Rincon, 32, also of Rantoul, over a previous relationship. The two had agreed to meet at the specified location, which led to the fatal encounter where Guadalupe Sanchez was shot in the upper torso.
The Champaign County Coroner’s Office and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Rantoul Police Department, are investigating the death. An autopsy was scheduled for April 16, 2024, and an inquest may be held at a later date.
Following the investigation, Argenis Rincon was arrested on May 8, 2024, at the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 12:44 PM. He was transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center and charged with murder. The investigation into the murder is ongoing, with Sheriff’s Detectives continuing to actively investigate the case.
