On June 7, 2024, at approximately 11:12 AM, the Galesburg Police Department responded to a report of shots being fired in the 900 block of East South Street in Galesburg, Illinois. Upon arrival, officers found Cam'ron Glass, an 18-year-old resident of Galesburg, inside the residence at 949 E. South Street. Glass was pronounced deceased at the scene due to an apparent gunshot wound, specifically a gunshot wound to the neck as confirmed by autopsy results.
The incident also resulted in the injury of Chase Houlden Jr., 19, of Galesburg, who was hospitalized at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. Houlden had driven himself to OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg after the shooting and later transferred to Peoria for further treatment. He suffered gunshot-related wounds to his neck and chin.
The investigation revealed that the shooting was linked to a dispute that originated on social media, described as a domestic relationship dispute or an "internet beef." A dark blue SUV, driven by Chase Houlden Jr., pulled up to the residence where Glass was living, and Houlden and a passenger, Gabriel Moore, 19, allegedly opened fire at the house.
Following the investigation, Chase Houlden Jr. was taken into custody on June 18, 2024, on a Knox County arrest warrant for murder after his release from the hospital. On July 11, 2024, Gabriel Moore was also arrested on a Knox County arrest warrant for murder at an apartment located at 300 E. Davis St., Apartment #2, in Galesburg. Both Houlden and Moore face charges of murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated discharge of a firearm. They are currently in custody at the Knox County Jail and have pleaded not guilty. Pre-trial hearings are scheduled for August 6 and September 9, with a potential trial start date of September 23.
Cam'ron Glass was born in Kewanee, Illinois, and is survived by his parents, grandparents, siblings, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Memorial contributions can be made to the family through Watson Thomas Funeral Home to assist with expenses.
