Kenyatta Brown, a 42-year-old woman from the Metro East area, was fatally shot on June 12, 2024, in East St. Louis, Illinois. She was found shot in the street in the 1300 block of 45th Street.
The incident involved a struggle between Brown and her boyfriend, Robert E. Hyde Jr., moments before the shooting. According to a prosecutor, Brown asked Hyde, “Why are you doing this to me?” during the altercation.

Hyde Jr., 48, from Belleville, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Brown's death. The St. Clair County state’s attorney filed the charges the day after the incident, but Hyde was not apprehended until later. U.S. marshals arrested him in Caseyville, and he is currently being held in the St. Clair County Jail. Hyde was scheduled for a court appearance following his arrest.
