On August 9, 2024, Eric Irvin, a 39-year-old resident of Zion, Illinois, was fatally shot in an incident that occurred early in the morning. The Zion Police Department received a report of shots fired at approximately 2:40 a.m. and responded to a residence in the 2900 block of Elizabeth Avenue.
Upon arrival, police officers found Irvin inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. Lifesaving efforts were performed by the police officers and paramedics from the Zion Fire/Rescue Department, but despite these efforts, Irvin was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead due to his injuries.
An autopsy conducted by the Lake County Coroner's Office confirmed that Irvin died from multiple gunshot wounds. The preliminary investigation suggests that the home was likely the intended target of the shooting, and Irvin was struck by rounds fired from outside the home by the offender.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was contacted to assist in the investigation, and both the task force investigators and Zion police detectives are actively investigating the homicide. The authorities believe that the shooting was targeted at the home, and they are seeking any information that could aid in the investigation.
