On September 10, 2024, 25-year-old Crismer Nieves was fatally shot in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood. Surveillance footage captured Nieves entering a gas station around 6:35 p.m., followed shortly by two SUVs—a Mercury Mountaineer and a Jeep—carrying several individuals, including 24-year-old Venezuelan migrant Kevin Perez-Paredes.
