In the heart of downtown Atlanta, a life was abruptly cut short on the morning of January 27th. Eric Moffett, a 32-year-old man, was fatally shot at a cafeteria located on Marietta Street. The incident unfolded around 8:20 a.m., when police were called to the scene and discovered Moffett deceased from a gunshot wound.
The investigation into the shooting spanned several months.
Authorities released surveillance images from the store to the public in an effort to identify the person responsible. These images ultimately led to a breakthrough in the case when a tip from the public helped police identify a suspect.
Months after the shooting, an arrest was made. Lloyd Salley, a 57-year-old man from Raleigh, North Carolina, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals at a relative's home. Salley was charged with homicide in connection with Moffett's death. According to police, the investigation revealed that Salley had allegedly waited for Moffett to exit a bathroom in the downtown cafeteria before fatally shooting him. Following his arrest in Raleigh, Salley was expected to be extradited to Georgia to face the charges against him.
