On February 19, 2023, Alena Polston Hobson, a 49-year-old resident of Covington, Georgia, was fatally shot by her husband, Joe Bernard Hobson.

The incident occurred at the Hobson residence located at 97 Livingston Lane in southwest Newton County. At approximately 6:22 p.m., Newton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the address in reference to a reported stolen vehicle.
