In a tragic turn of events on a Wednesday evening in Covington, Georgia, 63-year-old Carol Denise Holder lost her life in her own home. On November 18, 2020, an argument with her husband escalated, resulting in her being fatally shot. Police were called to the Cook Street residence around 10:40 p.m. with a report of a woman being shot by her husband.
Upon their arrival, officers found Carol Denise Holder in a bedroom, having succumbed to a gunshot wound. In the front yard of the residence, they apprehended her husband, 48-year-old Tony Lamar Holder. A witness at the scene informed investigators that a verbal altercation between the couple had tragically escalated, leading to Tony Holder allegedly firing the weapon that killed his wife.
Tony Holder was taken into custody and later transported to the Newton County Jail. He was subsequently charged with a string of serious offenses, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. It was also noted that as a convicted felon, he was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm. Records indicated that he had a significant criminal history, with multiple stints in prison for various charges, and had been released only months before the fatal shooting. Following the incident, Carol Holder's body was sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.
