In a tragic turn of events stemming from a domestic dispute, 41-year-old Tijuana Cook of Covington, Georgia, was killed on January 16, 2019. The incident, which also resulted in the death of her 23-year-old daughter, Michelle Olivia Dickerson, unfolded at their home on Usher Street. Another individual, Theodore Betton, who was Dickerson's boyfriend, was also shot and wounded during the horrific event.
The perpetrator was identified as Tijuana Cook's husband and Dickerson's stepfather, 37-year-old Cedric Bernard Cook. The violence erupted following an argument between Cedric and Tijuana Cook. During the altercation, Tijuana was on the phone with her mother, who tragically heard the events unfold. After shooting his wife multiple times with an automatic rifle, Cedric Cook reportedly took the phone and informed his mother-in-law of what he had done.
Shortly after killing his wife, Cedric Cook also shot and killed his stepdaughter, Michelle Dickerson, as she arrived at the residence. He then proceeded to shoot at her friends who were fleeing the scene, injuring Betton in the process. When law enforcement arrived, they discovered a home riddled with over 50 bullet casings.
Initially, Cedric Cook fled the scene, but he was apprehended a short time later when he emerged from a wooded area near the house and admitted his involvement in the shootings. He was subsequently arrested and faced a litany of charges, including two counts of malice murder, three counts of felony murder, and multiple counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
In September 2019, Cedric Cook pleaded guilty to the charges against him. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, with an additional five years for the gun charges, ensuring he would spend the remainder of his life incarcerated for the brutal slayings of his wife and stepdaughter.
