On a Sunday evening in Atlanta, the life of Quinta Tutman, a 23-year-old Black/African American man from East Point, Georgia, was cut short by gunfire. The incident, which also claimed the life of 23-year-old Dantavious Guthrie, unfolded on May 7, 2023, in the Grove Park neighborhood.
The shooting, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the Grove Park Recreation Center on Francis Place NW, is believed to have been preceded by a dispute.
A third individual was also wounded in the altercation but was able to transport themselves to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
Responding to the scene, Atlanta Police Department officers discovered Tutman and Guthrie with critical gunshot wounds. Both men were rushed to a nearby hospital, but their injuries proved to be fatal. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed their identities.
In the immediate aftermath, family members of one of the victims suggested that the shooting was likely gang-related. Investigators were working to piece together the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation, which reportedly stemmed from an earlier argument at a nearby park. While the investigation was ongoing at the time of the initial reports, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests, identified suspects, or charges filed in connection with the deaths of Quinta Tutman and Dantavious Guthrie.
