In the early morning hours of May 17, 2023, a workplace dispute in Cumming, Georgia, escalated into a fatal encounter that ended the life of 23-year-old Hamilton Samuel Darwin. The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. at a warehouse-type business on Ivy Street where Darwin was a temporary employee. An argument with a coworker, 20-year-old Ja'Mychael Quintrez Peavy of Hampton, took a violent turn, resulting in a shootout between the two men.
Both Darwin and Peavy retrieved firearms and exchanged gunfire. When Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered both men had been shot. Darwin was pronounced dead at the location, while Peavy was critically injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
