In May of 2023, the life of 40-year-old Shatieka Floyd, a female from the Atlanta, Georgia area, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter. On the evening of Thursday, May 18th, Clayton County police responded to a call of a person shot on Valley Hill Road in Jonesboro. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ms. Floyd inside her still-running vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation quickly revealed a domestic aspect to the harrowing event.
The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Jercory Brown. According to authorities, Brown had been driving a wrecker when he encountered Shatieka Floyd on Valley Hill Road. In an act of aggression, he used the large vehicle to ram her car before opening fire, fatally wounding her. Brown then fled the scene, abandoning the wrecker on Tara Boulevard and managing to evade law enforcement for the next two days.
A tense and tragic conclusion to the search for Jercory Brown unfolded just two days after the initial incident. On Saturday, police were once again dispatched to the 500 block of Valley Hill Road, the very same area where Ms. Floyd had been killed. The call reported that Brown was threatening to take his own life. When officers located him, he was sitting inside a box truck. As they approached, Brown inflicted a fatal gunshot wound to his own head. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, bringing the investigation to a somber close as a murder-suicide.
