In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 10, 2023, the life of 25-year-old Jamie Bernard Burton Jr. was tragically cut short in Savannah, Georgia. Responding to a call of shots fired at the Westlake Apartments around 6 a.m., Chatham County police officers discovered Burton's body in the breezeway of one of the buildings. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting continued for several weeks. Initially, authorities sought the public's help in identifying three individuals they wanted to question in connection with the homicide. The case saw a significant development when, on a Wednesday morning, three men were taken into custody.
Shaddrick Marquis Lacount, 23, Dwayne Singleton Jr., 23, and Montrez Hopson, 21, were arrested and subsequently charged with murder in the death of Jamie Bernard Burton Jr. Despite the arrests, detectives continued to appeal to the public for any additional information that could further solidify the evidence in the case against the three suspects.
