On a summer morning in 2023, the life of 20-year-old Zakevius Hester was cut short in a burst of violence that continues to baffle investigators. A Black male from Atlanta, Hester was found shot on the side of a building at the Elite at Lakeview apartments in East Point, Georgia, on July 14.
Authorities believe that around 8:20 a.m., something or someone lured Hester outside his residence before he was fatally shot.
The motive behind the shooting remains a mystery, and police have not released any information about potential suspects. The case is being investigated as a homicide, leaving a family and community searching for answers.
In the months following the shooting, the East Point Police Department has continued to seek the public's help in solving the crime. Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta has offered a reward of up to $2,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for Hester's death. Despite these efforts, as of late 2024, the case remains unsolved, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly identified. The investigation is ongoing.
