On July 23, 2023, 25-year-old LaVonta Latroy Mayes was fatally shot at the 8000 Waters Avenue apartment complex in Savannah, Georgia. Responding officers found him unresponsive just before 9 p.m., and he was pronounced dead at 3:08 a.m. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
