Antonio Byron Graham, a 41-year-old Black man known for his vibrant and energetic personality, was a familiar face to many in his Savannah, Georgia, community. Friends and family remembered him as funny and goofy, a man full of life who worked as a valet attendant at the Cotton Exchange and the Hyatt Regency. His positive demeanor left a lasting impression on those he met, making his sudden death a profound loss for his loved ones.
On the evening of June 30, 2024, police responded to
reports of a shooting in the 10000 block of Abercorn Street. At the scene, they found Antonio suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Emergency medical services arrived to render aid, but his injuries were too severe, and he died there. Authorities immediately began investigating the shooting as a domestic homicide.
The investigation quickly led Savannah police to a suspect. Kierra Fields, 33, who shared a household with Antonio, was arrested in connection with his death. She was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter. As the case proceeded, however, the charges against her were upgraded.
In September 2024, a Chatham County grand jury indicted Fields on charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The indictment specified that Antonio had been shot with a .38 handgun.
The case concluded when Fields accepted a negotiated guilty plea. As part of the agreement, her malice murder charge was reduced to voluntary manslaughter, and she pleaded guilty to that charge as well as to aggravated assault. The felony murder and firearm possession charges were dropped. A judge sentenced Fields to 20 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter and an additional 10 years for aggravated assault, with the sentences to be served consecutively for a total of 30 years.
