In the summer of 2023, the life of a young man from Savannah was tragically cut short. Wanya Kevon Pringle, a 23-year-old male, was killed on Monday, July 24, 2023, in a shooting that also left another person injured. The incident occurred after midnight at The Pines Apartment Complex located at 145 Priscilla D. Thomas Way in Garden City, Georgia. When officers from the Garden City Police Department arrived at the scene following a 911 call about shots being fired, they discovered Pringle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite receiving medical aid at the scene, he was pronounced dead. The second victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

Following the shooting, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to lead the death investigation. Their work quickly led to a suspect, and on August 1, 2023, the GBI arrested 20-year-old Jalon Alexander Jackson of Savannah. Jackson was subsequently charged with murder and making false statements in connection with Pringle's death.

The investigation into the death of Wanya Pringle was described as active and ongoing. Upon its completion, the case is slated to be handed over to the Eastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information regarding the investigation to contact the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Statesboro or the Garden City Police Department. A funeral service for Wanya Pringle was held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, in the Adams Chapel.
