In the late hours of an April evening in 2023, the life of 28-year-old Christopher 'Chris' White, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in East Point, a city in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The incident, which also left another man injured, unfolded in the parking lot of Washington Plaza on Washington Road, a shopping center that houses a Piggly Wiggly and a Citgo gas station.

Sometime on April 12th, a transaction that police believe was a gun sale gone wrong turned deadly. White and another man were shot while inside a car in the bustling parking lot. In the immediate aftermath, the driver of the vehicle sped away from the scene, traveling nearly three miles before stopping at a business park on the Stone Hogan Connector. It was there that law enforcement officers were called and discovered the two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Paramedics arrived at the business park to find a grim scene. While one of the men was alive and transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, Christopher White was pronounced dead at the scene. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office later officially identified him as the deceased victim.

In the days that followed the shooting, the East Point Police Department launched an intensive investigation. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, 27-year-old Quanard Lackley. Authorities arrested Lackley and charged him with a string of serious offenses, including murder, armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. Investigators believe that White and the other victim, who were from out of state, did not know their alleged attacker prior to the fatal meeting.
