In the summer of 2023, the life of Alex Troy Knighton, a 43-year-old male from Tifton, Georgia, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 31st, gunshots rang out in the 1700 block of Belleview Circle. Knighton was a victim of a drive-by shooting that also left an 18-year-old injured. Both victims were transported to Tift Regional Medical Center, where Knighton was pronounced dead.
The Tifton Police Department quickly requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation
to aid in the homicide investigation. Their collective efforts soon identified a suspect, 17-year-old Damarion Dunn of Albany, Georgia. A 'Be On the Lookout' was issued for Dunn, who was considered armed and dangerous. He was known to frequent Ashburn and Tifton, in addition to his hometown of Albany.
On August 11, 2023, Damarion Dunn turned himself in to the authorities. He was subsequently arrested and charged with felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of criminal damage to property in connection with the death of Alex Knighton. Following his arrest, Dunn was booked into the Tift County Jail. The investigation was described as active and ongoing.
