In the late evening hours of a Tuesday in Augusta, Georgia, the life of 15-year-old Juanya Holliman, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On August 1, 2023, violence erupted at the Good Hope Baptist Church on East Cedar Street, forever altering the lives of two families. Richmond County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the church at 9:22 p.m.
following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Juanya Holliman, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound to his upper body. Emergency services transported him to Augusta University Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m. The incident cast a somber shadow over the community, leaving friends and family to mourn the loss of a young life.
