In the late autumn of 2020, the city of Augusta, Georgia, was rocked by a violent act that claimed the life of 48-year-old Mequel Darmarcus Freeman, a local barber. On Monday, November 23, 2020, Freeman was at his place of work, Johnson's Beauty and Barber Salon on Eve Street, when a burst of gunfire shattered the day's calm.
