In the early morning hours of August 26, 2023, the life of 19-year-old Khia Shields was tragically cut short in her mother's Wrens, Georgia, home. A Black female and a sophomore at Georgia Southern University, she was asleep on the living room sofa when a bullet pierced through the wall and struck her in the chest. The sudden violence shattered the quiet of the night and the lives of her family.
