On Labor Day, September 4, 2023, a violent encounter at a gas station on Flat Shoals Road in Decatur, Georgia, claimed the life of 19-year-old Erika Aaliyah Stephens. Another 19-year-old, Rashawn Galbreath, was also injured in the shooting but survived. The incident, which cut short the life of the young woman born on February 5, 2004, is believed to have stemmed from an argument that escalated into gunfire.
The investigation into the fatal shooting led to the arrests of two suspects four days later. DeQuan Mosley, 24, and Thaddues Mosley, 26, both from Atlanta, were taken into custody without incident at a residence in Decatur. The arrests were made by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office fugitive unit with assistance from the U.S. Marshal's Office. It has not been publicly stated if the two men are related.
Both DeQuan and Thaddues Mosley are facing serious charges for their alleged involvement in the incident. They have each been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Following their arrests, they were booked into the DeKalb County Jail and are being held without bond.
