In the autumn of 2023, a transaction arranged online turned into a fatal encounter for a Hiram, Georgia man. Joshua Alan Swink, a 41-year-old male, was shot and killed on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at a residence on Shenandoah Drive. The incident unfolded in the early afternoon when a potential buyer arrived to purchase a dirt bike that Swink had advertised for sale online.
The prospective buyer, identified as 18-year-old Oscar Ubaldo Vega-Aguirre of Union City, met with Swink to complete the purchase. An argument broke out between the two men, which tragically escalated. Vega-Aguirre is accused of shooting Swink multiple times, leading to his death at the scene. Following the shooting, Vega-Aguirre fled the area on foot and attempted to make his escape by using a ride-sharing service.
Alert deputies, aided by descriptions from witnesses, were able to quickly locate and intercept the ride-share vehicle before it could leave Paulding County. Vega-Aguirre was taken into custody without further incident. He was subsequently arrested and is being held in the Paulding County Jail without bond. He faces serious charges, including felony murder, malice murder, and aggravated assault in connection with the death of Joshua Swink.
