On August 17, 2024, Deputy Brandon Cunningham, a 30-year-old officer with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office in Georgia, was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic dispute call in Hiram. The incident occurred in the Harmony Creek subdivision near Bill Carruth Parkway and Virgie Ballentine Drive.
