In a tragic turn of events that unfolded in Hiram, Georgia, 18-year-old Kaileb Chance Ellison, a Black male, lost his life. The incident occurred on the evening of February 2, 2019, when a 911 call was placed reporting a person had been shot at a residence on Calm Waters Avenue. Upon their arrival, sheriff's deputies discovered Ellison with a gunshot wound to the head. He was in grave condition and immediately attended to by fire and EMS personnel before being transported to an Atlanta-area hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Kaileb Ellison succumbed to his injuries and passed away on February 7, 2019. The investigation into the shooting quickly led authorities to a suspect, a 15-year-old male. Shortly after the incident, deputies were able to locate and apprehend the suspect at the Harris Bridge Overlook Apartments in nearby Dallas, Georgia. The firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered.
The suspect was identified as Seth William Wyatt. Due to the severity of the crime, the decision was made to charge him as an adult. Wyatt, also identified as a Black male, faced a litany of serious charges, including malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. Additional charges included theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a pistol by a minor, altering the serial number on a firearm, and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Act. Following his arrest, Wyatt was held without bond at a youth detention center in the metro Atlanta area.
