In the Virginia-Highland neighborhood of Atlanta, a fatal shooting on the morning of December 11, 2023, claimed the life of 48-year-old Jason Greer. The incident occurred outside the Druid Hills Presbyterian Church on Ponce de Leon Avenue, a location that also houses the Mercy Community Church, a child development center, and a nonprofit focused on aiding the homeless.
Authorities were alerted to the shooting at approximately 9:40 a.m. and arrived to find Jason Greer lying near the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, his injuries proved to be fatal. The motive for the shooting has not been publicly released by the Atlanta Police Department.
An investigation into the homicide led to the arrest of a suspect two days after the shooting. Jeremiah Perry, 36 years old, was taken into custody and subsequently charged in connection with Greer's death. The charges filed against Perry include murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arrested and booked into the Fulton County jail. The case is proceeding through the legal system.
