In the Castleberry Hill neighborhood of Atlanta, on the evening of December 18, 2023, a discovery was made that would cut a young life short. At approximately 5:20 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot at 199 Peters Street. There, they found 24-year-old Tabakus Monroe, a male resident of Atlanta, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Homicide investigators were called to the location, a bustling area
near popular restaurants at the western edge of downtown Atlanta, to piece together the circumstances that led to Monroe's demise. The investigation into his death progressed swiftly.
Within a matter of days, a suspect was identified and taken into custody. Just four days after the shooting, Leonardo Zachary Metelus, 23, was arrested and charged with the murder of Tabakus Monroe.
