In the summer of 2021, a burst of violence on the Fourth of July in southwest Atlanta ultimately claimed the life of 23-year-old Kendrick Zerrell Murphy. On that Sunday, Murphy was shot on Hills Avenue. For eight days, he fought for his life, but succumbed to his injuries on July 12, 2021, turning an aggravated assault case into a homicide investigation.
