On New Year's Day 2024, Kyle Thomas Walker, a 30-year-old Caucasian male from Cook County, Georgia, was fatally shot in Valdosta. The incident occurred around 8:23 p.m. at a Circle K on Northside Drive. Responding to a call about a shooting, Valdosta Police Officers discovered Walker in the front seat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his head. Bystanders were attempting to provide first aid before emergency medical services arrived and transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Valdosta Police Department's investigation into the city's first homicide of the year led them to identify two suspects: 19-year-old Sharod Rasheed Tucker and 17-year-old Keyuntay Washington, both from Valdosta. Acting on a tip, detectives located the two teenagers at a residence on Lexington Circle the following day, January 2nd. As law enforcement approached, Tucker fled on foot but was apprehended after a brief chase. During the pursuit, he reportedly dropped a bag that was later found to contain a stolen firearm. Washington was taken into custody from inside the residence without incident.
A search of the Lexington Circle home uncovered property belonging to Kyle Thomas Walker. Both Tucker and Washington were arrested and transported to the Lowndes County Jail. They face multiple felony charges, including felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Tucker faces additional charges of possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction of an officer, and possession of marijuana.
