In the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 23, 2024, a violent home invasion in Quitman, Georgia, tragically cut short the life of 29-year-old Willie Giddens Jr. The male victim was shot and killed inside his residence located in the 900 block of South Lee Street. The Quitman Police Department received a call for assistance at approximately 1:30 a.m. and, upon arriving at the scene, requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to lead the homicide investigation.
At the time of the fatal shooting, there were other individuals inside the home with Giddens. One of these individuals sustained severe, though not life-threatening, injuries during the home invasion. Investigators from both the GBI and the Quitman Police Department, with assistance from the Brooks County Sheriff's Office, began processing the scene for evidence and conducting interviews. Giddens's body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death.
