In the early morning hours of January 27, 2024, a sense of normalcy in a Duluth, Georgia shopping center parking lot was shattered by the sound of gunfire. In the aftermath, 17-year-old Elbert Josh Brown, an African American male from Snellville, was left with a critical gunshot wound. His friends quickly transported him to Northside Hospital Duluth, but his injuries proved to be too severe. Later that day, the young man succumbed to his wounds, and a homicide investigation was launched into his tragic and untimely death.
The Gwinnett County Police Department began piecing together the events that transpired in the parking lot located at 4500 Satellite Boulevard. Initially, the circumstances surrounding the shooting were unclear, and authorities reached out to the public for any information that could lead to a suspect. By the beginning of February, the investigation had led to a significant development. Gwinnett County police announced that they had arrested a 16-year-old in connection with Brown's death. Investigators determined that the shooting was accidental. The unnamed juvenile suspect was taken into custody and was being held at a juvenile detention facility.
